Today John Lennon arrived in Spain to continue filming How I Won the War. It was during the long, boring stretches of downtime between scenes that he would begin working on the song that became “Strawberry Fields Forever.”
Another way he liked to entertain himself was by riding around in his Rolls-Royce with blacked-out windows and built-in loudspeaker, scaring the natives. So if you were in southern Spain in September 1966, and you approached a mysterious vehicle on the street only to have a voice with a Scouse accent bellow “Get away from the car!”, this is why.
