I can’t tell you what The Beatles were doing today, but I can tell you that the Rolling Stones were playing the last date of their American tour supporting Aftermath. The show was in Honolulu, HI and consisted of eight songs:
- Intro / Not Fade Away
- The Last Time
- Paint It Black
- Lady Jane
- Mother’s Little Helper
- Get Off Of My Cloud
- 19th Nervous Breakdown
- (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction
Concerts were a good deal shorter in those days, and no one seemed to mind too much. With a band like The Beatles or the Stones, it was more about being able to say you’d seen them than about the music itself. It later years the Stones would refine their stagecraft considerably, whereas The Beatles, of course, abandoned the whole thing and concentrated on recording.
But at this juncture in time the Fabs still have one last American tour to get through, beginning with a show in Chicago on August 12. We’ll be there soon.
