Today saw the UK release of Pink Floyd’s third LP — their first with no contribution from erstwhile leader Syd Barrett — which served as the soundtrack to Barbet Schroeder’s film More. 50 years later the movie is mostly forgotten and the album is often overlooked among the Floyd’s formidable catalog. But it is a great record, mixing ethereal beauty with some of the most straight-ahead rock they ever recorded. There are many highlights, but here are a couple:

In other news, I have a scribbled note here telling me that today was when Mick Taylor officially joined the Rolling Stones, replacing the recently sacked Brian Jones. The clock was ticking on the tragically doomed Mr. Jones; more on that at the appropriate time.
