There was a Beatles session at Apple Studios today, though I don’t believe that any of The Beatles were present. The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, with haiku-like concision, describes the day’s labors this way:

Stereo mixes, ending with a tape compilation, of the 30 January rooftop recordings.

To elaborate slightly, this means that the raw tapes of “Get Back,” “I’ve Got a Feeling,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Dig a Pony,” and “One After 909” from the rooftop concert were turned into finished tracks. Of these five mixes, only one appeared on the provisional and unreleased Get Back album, and none at all on Let It Be (for which Phil Spector started over from scratch). So in essence all the effort was for naught, and I shan’t repeat the error. Carry on, good people.
