Today Paul and Linda flew from London to New York. I think the trip was planned, but under the circumstances, this was not a bad time for a Beatle who liked to smoke dope to get out of the country.
Paul’s departure left John as the only Beatle in the British Isles (he probably would have left too if he wasn’t out on bail); George was in L.A. and Ringo in Sardinia. The four of them would not be together again for a couple of months, but a lot would happen during the diaspora — more than enough to justify keeping the lights on in the meantime.
