This was a Sunday in 1967, just like it is now, but did The Beatles rest? No, they returned to the air station at West Malling in Kent to film some additional scenes for Magical Mystery Tour. Apparently the editing process had exposed some gaps in the continuity, though given the movie’s complete lack of a coherent narrative, it’s hard to imagine why they cared. I am struck again by a) how much effort The Beatles put into this project and b) how little they got in return for all their efforts.
Today also, I am told, marked the first UK appearance by Traffic, who actually had been filmed performing their song “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush” for a Magical Mystery Tour scene that didn’t make the final cut. This is not it, but should give you the general idea:
