The Beatles Plus 50 It was fifty years ago today…

So somehow, in my eagerness to preorder the recently released In Their Lives: Great Writers on Great Beatles Songs, I accidentally ordered two copies, both of which arrived in the same package. At first I was going to send one back, but then I thought, why not give it away? Why not have a contest?

So here’s the idea:

1. Write anything of any length (a sentence or more) on any Beatles song.
2. Send it to me via email: billter (at) gmail.com. Let’s make the deadline next Friday, July 21.
3. Best entry gets the book. Your odds are likely to be pretty good; you could be the only entry.

It’s a good read, though the title is a bit misleading; not every writer is great, nor is every song (both subjective judgments, of course). Chuck Klosterman’s essay on “Helter Skelter” alone is worth the price of admission, and there are many other good pieces on various Beatles songs, some obvious and some obscure (including “You Know My Name, Look Up the Number”).
