These days’ sessions were devoted to recording “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” in addition to some further piano overdubs that were contemplated for use in “A Day in the Life” but eventually abandoned.

I feel like I can save us both some time by not getting too deep into “Lucy” (as it were). The lore surrounding this song is so large and deep that you already know what you think of it. Yes, I find it hard to believe that John didn’t know the key words of the title abbreviated to “LSD,” but what do I know? He was a complicated guy.

In fact I’ll tell you in all honesty that I find “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” to be just a teensy bit overrated. Or maybe just overexposed. It’s nice to hear it now and again, but I generally prefer the William Shatner version.
