Today there was more work on “Penny Lane” and, quite frankly, I’ve had just about enough of “Penny Lane.” It’s one of those songs where, if you hear it about once a year it sounds nice and bouncy and, um, rooty-tooty. But you hear it again a week later and it’s like, enough.

Or maybe I’m just grumpy? As a Beatles scholar I feel like I’m supposed to be objective, but there’s no getting around the fact that some songs just don’t seem quite worth all the effort that went into them. And yes, they are mostly Paul songs, and yes I feel bad about this because it is my officially stated position that I’m through picking on Paul. He is a great musician and a fantastic bass player but just… you know… a little too rooty-tooty. It happens. Let’s not dwell on it.
