The Beatles played two shows at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto today. These would be their final appearances in Canada. There was also a press conference at the Hot Stove Lounge, a private club within the Maple Leaf Gardens complex; you can read a transcript here.

The Canadian reporters are a bit more level-headed than their American counterparts and, after an initial question about the Bigger than Jesus problem, mostly stay away from the subject. At one point John, ironically, brings it up himself when asked what question he dislikes being asked the most.

One reporter asks “What are the Beatles going to do about their diminishing popularity?”, perhaps in reference to the fact that the Toronto shows were not sellouts. This seems to amuse the boys, who at this point might have been happy to be a little less popular, and let Jesus have the title again.
